Pawn Shop That Takes Electronics in NYC
Paradise Pawnbrokers has two locations in the Bronx. At both of these locations we buy, sell, and provide loans for a variety of different categories of items. This can include electronics. Generally speaking, we will look at just about anything when it comes to people selling or pawning items, however, there are definitely some factors people should consider when trying to sell/pawn an electronic device. If you have specific questions about what we buy, our inventory, or how to secure a pawn loan, please call our shops or contact our team. Keep reading to learn more about the types of electronic devices we work with and the factors that contribute to how valuable electronics might be.
What Types Of Electronics Can I Pawn In New York City?
Here at Paradise Pawn we take PCs, Macbooks, and gaming PCs. Of course, there are some factors to consider. When it comes to electronic devices it is vital that they are in great condition and that you have all the applicable accessories including keyboards, mouses, chargers, etc. Moreover, the brand and the age of the device play a monumental role in whether or not a pawn shop is willing to buy or provide a loan for a computer. There is not a lot of resale value for older generations of laptops. Preferably PC laptops should be less than three years old, MacBooks can go back as far as five years old, and gaming PCs depend on the specs. That said, we will look at almost anything but if you have questions we recommend calling in advance.
Similarly to computers and laptops there is resale value for gaming consoles. Again, it is important that the consoles are on the newer side and that any peripherals and accessories like AC adaptors, game controllers, or similar devices are brought with you. Some people will also bundle in a few games although this is not necessary. Like with computers and laptops there is not much resale value on older generations of consoles. Generally, people are looking for this generation or maybe the one before it.
Smaller smart devices can also be sold or used for pawn loans. As long as the device is a recent generation and in great condition our team can provide loan or buy it outright. When it comes to smartphones, there is often resale value for the last three or four generations and the same can be said for tables and smart watches.
What Impacts How Much I Can Get Selling/Pawning Electronics?
There are many factors that influence how much you can get when selling or pawning an electronic device. First and foremost your decision to sell or pawn will impact how you much get. Selling outright will provide a higher price than pawning. By definition a pawn loan is always done at lower percentage of the potential resale value.
The biggest factor with electronics is condition. Cracked screens, issues with the hardware or battery, or problems with ports not working will often disqualify an electronic device from resale. After condition, age is the next important factor. Electronics evolve very quickly and therefore lose value just as quickly. Most people are not interested in buying things that are over 5 years old or are too many generations behind. Outside of age and condition, the brand also plays a roll. Different brands have different price points when they sell their products as new items. Used items tend to mirror those differences.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pawning Electronics
That depends on the laptop and the pawn shop.Typically you could get a couple hundred dollars selling a laptop to a pawn shop depending on the brand, model, and condition. Laptops, like all electronics, decrease in value the older they are. While electronics are very expensive items which makes them good for resale/pawning, they are also a unique category where their inherent value decreases as new models get released. Compared to something like gold jewelry which relatively maintains its value over the years, electronics become less valuable as they age. Many electronics become incompatible with new software which decreases their value even if they are in near perfect condition. You can expect to get a percentage of what you spent on the laptop when it was new.
Pawn loans are a great way to get quick cash without actually having to get rid of something you own. Instead, you temporarily put up an item or a group of items as collateral for a loan. Because those items are collateral, the loan amount has to be a smaller percentage of what the resale value would be. So if you sold those items to the pawn shop, they would pay you more than if you pawned them. This is because in a pawn loan, the profit to the pawn shop is the interest payment, but with selling, the profit for the pawn shop comes from their ability to resell the item sold to them.
There are many online stores through social media websites and neighborhood sites that allow people to sell items to their neighbors. As a bit of disclosure of bias, we are a pawn shop. That said, there are some drawbacks to buying/selling electronics online. Pawn shops are businesses that have to follow regulations and can only work if they provide good services to their customers. Pawn shops are public facing and you can read online reviews. Most online shops that let you sell to strangers do not have to consider concepts like safety or making sure people don’t get ripped off. There is a buyer beware and seller beware atmosphere to selling online. If you get ripped off by a stranger, there might not be any recourse you can take. There are thousands of stories of people realizing that they got way less money than they could have because they were tricked by a buyer or that they bought something that was in worse condition than it was advertised.
